I was skeptical about carving end grain with an angle grinder given the high speed of the blade. End grain doesn't play nice like edge or face grain. I don't make end grain cutting boards for the same reason (and I personally think end grain boards saves on your knives is a wives tale). The cutting board either goes through a planer or is planed with a router on a sled after glue up. Either way, I've heard stories about wood shrapnel and ruined projects.
Maybe my concern is overkill as carving this bowl was not as easy as carving edge grain and resulted in a number of kickbacks but no disasters. It does feel different though and you better be holding that grinder tight and make light passes.
